Supervisors Vote To Ban Parking Along One Side Of A Busy Road In East Okoboji Beach

June 11, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors this (Tues.) morning voted to ban parking along the south side of Walleye Drive in the East Okoboji Beach Area between 256th Avenue and Edith Avenue. County Engineer Cole Budach presented the matter to the supervisors, saying it was being requested by law enforcement…

“We got a report from the Sheriff’s Office from Joshua Johnson and Tony Peterson that that road was completely blocked off, I believe it was the night of May 28th it was impassable, due to parking of vehicles on both sides of the road. We’ve also experienced some problems with this section of road during snow removal as well. And then just on top of that it is right on a hill so if you’re going out to get away from a vehicle parked, let’s say on the north side of the road, you go closer to that south side of the road, there’s just not great sight distance there.”

Budach added that if the problem persists, they may have to consider banning parking on BOTH sides of the road in that area.

He adds having the no parking designation will give the Sheriff’s Office the authority to tow violators.
