Students with No Boundaries Program working to improve cat habitat at Humane Society of Northwest Iowa

November 01, 2022 Becky Thoreson

(Milford)-Okoboji Students with the No Boundaries Program are working on improvements at the Humane Society. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

Students at Okoboji High School are working on a number of projects with the No Boundaries Program. Senior Grace Fisher says one of the projects involves cat habitat at the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa. “One of my favorite projects on this team is Party on the Catio. I am working with some Spencer students at the Spencer Community School District to work with the Northwest Humane Society to create an environment for the cats. One of the tasks is creating at ‘catio’, is what they’re calling it. The team comes together and does research and has ideas about how to make this happen and how to make it an actual thing. The catio idea is basically making an outside patio for cats, taking into consideration their wants, their needs and also, what they need to survive.”
She notes that the students are also reaching out to the community. “Basically, we just want to spread the word like, what is No Boundaries and why is it important to our school districts and why other people should join in, but it also helps us create tasks through our projects, and we just want to share that to the whole community that’s around here.”
