(Arnolds Park)– The weather certainly doesn’t feel like spring, but the Iowa Great Lakes are showing a sign that it’s here.
The ice has officially gone out of the Okoboji’s.
Kirk Ewen of Arnolds Park keeps track of the official freeze/thaw dates of the lakes. He tells KUOO news the ice went out of East Lake Okoboji Tuesday (April 9th) and West Lake Okoboji today (Wed. April 10th). He says the strong wind pushed out what ice was remaining.
That compares with a year ago when the ice had gone out of the lakes already in mid-March.
