Storms Dump Heavy Rains On Some Areas; Street Flooding Reported In Spencer

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A heavy thunderstorm dumped nearly two inches of rain on Spencer Tuesday night, causing extensive street flooding. Most of that fell in less than an hour, overwhelming storm sewers. That, in turn, caused streets in some areas to fill up with water. Cars were stalled in some areas.

The storms produced funnel clouds near Heron Lake, Minnesota, but there were no confirmed reports of any tornado touchdowns.

The storms also produced large hail in some areas. There was report around 8:20 p.m. of ping pong ball-size hail in the Moneta area, which is just east of the Clay/O’Brien county line.

Winds gusted to nearly 30 mph and nearly three quarters-of-an-inch of rain fell at the KUOO studios as the storms passed through.
