(Storm Lake)– Multiple arrests have been made in an assault that took place this past Sunday in Storm Lake.
Police say they were called to an apartment complex where a male victim told officers he had been approached by five people in a parking lot and that they began arguing with him and hit him several times causing injuries that required medical attention. The victim’s phone was also taken.
Police apprehended one of the suspects at the scene, 19-year-old Arun Keyanye of Storm Lake. Keyanye was charged with robbery in the 2nd degree, assault while participating in a felony causing serious injury and participating in a riot. He was booked into jail on a $10,000 bond.
Further investigation resulted in arrest warrants being issued for 32-year-old Faheem Boutte and 22-year-old Jamuo Gatwech, both of Storm Lake. They have since been taken into custody on charges of assault while participating in a felony causing serious injury and participating in a riot.
After reviewing surveillance video, police discovered Boutte dropped a handgun as he fled the scene. Search warrants were obtained for Boutte’s residence in Storm Lake. Officers found marijuana, clothing worn during the incident and a gun. He was additionally charged with person ineligible to carry a dangerous weapon and possession of a controlled substance…marijuana. Boutte and Gatwetch are being held in the Buena Vista county jail on bonds of $10,000 each.
Storm Lake police say the case remains under investigation.
