November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– An investigation into some stolen checks that were showing up at an Estherville business with a forged signature on them has resulted in the arrest of an Estherville woman on forgery charges.

Estherville police say the initial complaint was received back on December 14th of last year when they received a report from a woman stating that several of her checks had been stolen and that they were being forged at a business in town.

Upon investigating police arrested 38-year-old Amelia Corona of Estherville on two counts of forgery for two checks written in an amount exceeding $170.

Corona was booked into the Emmet county jail this past Sunday. She made an initial appearance before a magistrate and was released on her own recognizance Monday.

Forgery is a class “D” felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine.
