State Representative Mike May Not To Seek Re-election

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– State Representative Mike May says he will NOT seek re-election when his current term expires at the end of the upcoming legislative session.

In making the announcement, May tells KUOO news “it was a great run, I’ve enjoyed it, it was one of the thrills of my life. I can’t thank enough people out there for all the kindness and respect they’ve shown me over the past six years”.

May says he wants to devote more time to his family and business. But he says he likely won’t totally disappear from the political arena.

May says he’s proud of several accomplishments as a State Representative, including the Angler’s Bay restoration project, the boat registration fee increase that funds boater safety and invasive species programs…among others…including education and bills related to veterans.

May also commented on the change in the political landscape in Des Moines, siting the shift in power from his party (Republicans) when he was first elected to the legislature, to the Democrats now.

May says he looks forward to serving through the upcoming session and the challenges it will bring, including dealing with the state’s budget crisis.
