State Pier Remains Open–Minus Public Dock

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– The State Pier at the Arnolds Park Amusement Park remains open, but one of it’s main features is missing.

The public dock that used to extend off the State Pier was not put in this spring, and officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources say it probably won’t be put in at all this summer.

Frank Rickrel, District One Parks Supervisor for the Iowa DNR, tells KUOO news the dock was heavily damaged last year by vandals. And he says as of now, atleast, there’s no money available from the state to fix it.

And unless public donations come in, Rickrel says it’s doubtful the public dock will ever be put back in.

The State Pier itself, meanwhile, remains open to the public. A report on another media outlet has led some to believe the State Pier has been closed entirely. That isn’t the case, though.
