(Emmetsburg)– State Auditor Rob Sand has issued a report into Palo Alto county’s finances. It shows the county’s revenues totaled a little more than $24.1 million for the fiscal year that ended June 30th, 2023, a 20.2 percent increase. Officials say that’s attributed to an increase in contributions from the Iowa Department of Transportation for road improvements. Expenses for county operations for the same period totaled slightly more than $17.1 million, less than a one percent increase over the previous fiscal year.
The report’s findings included a lack of segregation of duties and material amounts of receivables, payables and capital assets not properly recorded in financial statements.
A separate report into covid funds Palo Alto County received for the fiscal year that ended June 30th, 2023, turned up no concerns.
Copies of the reports can be found at the State Auditor’s website.
