State Auditor Issues Report On Dickinson County Finances

September 28, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– Iowa Auditor of State Rob Sand today (Wed.) released an audit report on Dickinson county. It finds the county’s revenues totaled $25.5 million for the year ended June 30th, 2021, a decrease of nearly 11 percent from the prior year. Expenses totaled nearly $17.2 million…up 1.6 percent over the prior year. Officials say the decrease in revenues is attributed to a reduction in capital contributions from the Iowa Department of Transportation.

The report cites nine findings related to the receipt and expenditure of taxpayer funds, including lack of segregation of duties, adjustments needed to properly record receivables, payable, transfers and capital assets in the county’s financial statements, appropriations exceeding budgeted amounts prior to amendment, and a deficit fund balance in one county fund. The report says seven of the nine findings were repeated from the prior year.
