Spirit Lake School Board Member Announces He’ll Be Stepping Down

March 20, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake School Board will soon have a vacancy. Scott Trautman announced today (Mon.) he’ll be resigning from his seat on the board effective April 4th. Trautman has served on the board nearly 10 years. Trautman wasn’t immediately available for comment, however in a statement, he says he wants to focus more on his family and work life, adding he was privileged to have served on the board and that every vote he made “was with students’ best interest as the priority”. Superintendent Dr. David Smith says Trautman’s presence will definitely be missed…

“Scott is an incredible man. He truly cares about our kids and their futures. He’s been a very steady leader who has pushed us to be the best that we can be. His integrity, calming presence and tactful way of dealing with difficult situations has always served our district well. He will be greatly missed.”

The board intends to fill the vacancy by appointing a person who will serve up until the November election. Eligible residents interested in the appointment should submit a letter of application, in person, to the Board Secretary within 10 days of publication of the District’s intent to fill the vacancy.
