(Spirit Lake)-A Centennial Celebration of the Templar Park Arch will be held on Saturday. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Spirit Lake Protective Association will host a Centennial Celebration and Ribbon Cutting at The Templar Park Recreation Area on the west side of Big Spirit Lake Saturday afternoon.
SLPA President John Smeltzer says, the Archway was first dedicated in 1924. “We’re doing a Centennial Celebration of The Templar Park Arch. The whole Templar Park system for Spirit Lake Protective Association has been a project in a whole variety of different pieces, but The Archway, the major piece left in addition to the stairway, celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. It was dedicated in 1924, and we’re going to do a ribbon-cutting ceremony to start the second hundred years on August 17th at 2 o’clock. It’s one of many projects that are actually going on in the Templar Park area for us.”
The Spirit Lake Protective Association will be joined by representatives from the Dickinson County Museum, The Grand Lodge of Iowa and The Iowa DNR. The public is welcome to attend the celebration at Templar Point in the Iowa DNR Shelter.
