(Spirit Lake)– City officials in Spirit Lake say residents WILL now be able to shoot off fireworks July 3rd and July 4th, as well as on December 31st, as the result of a new state law that went into effect Tuesday. The use of fireworks on any other days in Spirit Lake remains prohibited. Fireworks will be allowed to be shot off July 3rd from 9:00 am until 10:00 pm and July 4th from 9:00 am until 11:00 pm.
In a post on social media, Spirit Lake police say the allowances must occur on private property or the real property of a person who has consented to the use of fireworks on that property.
The post goes on to say the use of fireworks in city parks, public green spaces, trails and city streets remains prohibited July 3rd and July 4th , and that the use of fireworks under any circumstance other than those previously mentioned is still prohibited within the city limits of Spirit Lake.
An ordinance previously in effect in Spirit Lake totally banned the use of fireworks in city limits.
