(Spirit Lake)– Some Spirit Lake Middle School students have done their part to assist victims of the Haiti earthquake.
The student council launched a fundraiser last week that raised more than 800-dollars that will go to the American Red Cross and its International Relief Fund to assist Haiti earthquake victims.
Cindy Voss, Executive Director of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chapter of the American Red Cross was recently presented with the check (see photo). She praised the students for their efforts.
The students raised the money by charging fellow students for the right to do certain things, such as the right to wear a hat or eat a snack…among other things.
Voss says the students were inspired to raise the money as they have a class mate who was born in Haiti that still has family living there.
Voss says monetary donations are still the most effective way to assist those in Haiti.
