Spirit Lake Man Wins Car Drop Contest

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A Spirit Lake man is this year’s winner in the Sunrise Kiwanis/Iowa Great Lakes American Red Cross car drop contest.

Bonnie Fokken of the Sunrise Kiwanis Club retrieved the clock from the car once it was pulled to shore Monday by the Arnolds Park/Okoboji Underwater Search and Rescue Crew. Fokken says according to the clock, the car dropped into the lake at 6:12 p.m. Sunday, making Steve Alger of Spirit Lake the winner. He picked 6:10 p.m., using his wife’s birthday as a guide.

Alger is the winner of the $1,000 prize.

Fokken and Cindy Voss, Executive Director of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, expressed their gratitude to everyone who purchased tickets in the contest.
