(Primghar)– A Spirit Lake man has pled not guilty to attempted murder and felony assault charges in O’Brien county.
As we reported back on December 14th, 2025, Johnathon Oldenkamp was arrested on a warrant December 11th, 2025, related to an alleged incident in May, 2025. Oldenkamp was charged with pulling alongside a vehicle traveling westbound on Highway 18 in Hartley and shooting at the vehicle. The driver of that vehicle, Fernando Curiel, was injured but managed to drive himself to the the Sheldon hospital.
A criminal complaint says Curiel had been Oldenkamp’s supervisor at AMPI and that Oldenkamp had recently been terminated.
When he was arrested in December, Oldenkamp allegedly kicked a deputy and O’Brien County Sheriff Bruce Devereaux. Oldenkamp was additionally charged with two counts of assault on a peace officer in connection with that incident.
Oldenkamp is scheduled to go on trial February 3rd.
