(Spirit Lake)– A Spirit Lake man was arrested Tuesday on a warrant in connection with an incident back in April of 2023 at a Spirit Lake hotel. 31-year-old Maurice Bowens was charged with dominion or control of a firearm by a felon; criminal mischief in the 4th degree; domestic abuse assault causing injury; and theft in the 4th degree.
A criminal complaint filed by Spirit Lake accuses Bowens of punching his girlfriend in the face and taking her cell phone, throwing it to the ground, destroying it. The document states that the incidents were captured on video surveillance.
The complaint also states that police found a 9 millimeter handgun in a vehicle Bowens had been driving along with a magazine containing 10 rounds of ammunition and a 9 millimeter pistol with a magazine containing 26 rounds of ammunition.
Bowens is being held in the Dickinson county jail.
