(Spirit Lake)– A major fundraiser will be held this weekend for the Spirit Lake Fire Department. Chief Pat Daly says they’ll be holding their annual Pancake Feed Saturday from 7:00 am until 1:00 pm at the fire station…
“The firemen are all going to be there working, they’re cooking the sausage, they’re cooking the pancakes, they’re cleaning up the tables. I myself will be, how should I say this? Like my old boss used to say, I’ll mill around smartly. So if anybody has any questions about anything we do, please feel free to come talk to me because that’s what I’m here for is to answer questions.”
Admission will be by a freewill donation…
“We had a little problem with our boat last year so we have to do some maintenance on that so we can get it back in the water up on Big Spirit, so that’s kind of where we’re headed to with proceeds, so.”
Daly says those attending will also be able to get a look at the equipment. He’s also encouraging anyone interested in becoming a firefighter to attend Saturday’s event…
“We’re down a few members. It’s really hard to get volunteers any more. It’s not just here, it’s all over the country. I don’t know. People just don’t want to volunteer like they did. I volunteered 42 years ago. We all just had a different idea what we needed to do to be a volunteer.”
This year marks the 69th year for the Spirit Lake Fire Department’s Pancake Feed.
