(Spirit Lake)-Spirit Lake High School will present their Fall Musical this weekend. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Spirit Lake Drama and Music Departments will present The SpongeBob Musical this weekend.
Aiden Holdors plays the beloved cartoon character. “I’ll be honest, there’s a lot of pressure because everybody knows SpongeBob, everyone knows what he’s like. So, I kind of have this bar I’ve gotta meet when it comes to portraying him on stage, because when people come to see The SpongeBob Musical, they want to see SpongeBob and all his friends portrayed how they have them in their head, you know. So, I’m trying to make it my own but also stick to the source material as best I can.’
He adds that the show features fun music. “Oh my gosh, on a scale of 1 to 10, it’s gotta be an 11. They’ve got some bangers on this soundtrack. I think it was Aerosmith that worked on it and David Bowie, Plain White T’s, a lot of big names on the sound track for this and they did not disappoint. It’s been a really fun time.”
John Carr plays Patrick, and says the crew brings the production all together. “We have about 8 different people in the crew. It’s not our biggest set, but it’s a pretty large set for this musical. We have a couple of things that are flown in from the ceiling, we have different props that they’ll bring out on stage and it’s a lot of work and they’re doing a good job at it.”
Performance times are Friday night at 7 and Sunday afternoon at 2 at The Sami Bedell Center for The Performing Arts.
