Spirit Lake City Council Approves Sale Of Some City-Owned Land

August 27, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake City Council Tuesday evening approved the sale of some city-owned land. City Attorney-Administrator Gregg Owens says the small parcel of land is just off Pinewood Avenue on the city’s southwest side…

“It’s basically a useless city lot. It’s been sitting there for a long time, it’s not buildable as it stands by itself. This spring the city got an offer from Paul Brown who owns the adjacent property there to buy the property. He had it supported with an opinion from a realtor and it’s a pretty generous offer, to be honest. So the council set it for public hearing as required by law and we didn’t hear any objections tonight and the council approved it.”

Owens says some new homes will be constructed on the site…

“His plan is to in addition to the home that he owns there and is working on, having additional four lots as part of a small subdivision. Remove the well, and allow that lot to become part of another lot and so we’ll se a spot where there was just one home and a vacant, useless city lot, turned into a remodeled home and we would expect within the next few years four new houses.”

Owens says development of the property wasn’t a requirement as terms of the sale.
