(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake City Council Tuesday evening voted unanimously to rezone land where the Homestead Cooperative is located, just off Highway 71 south. The action was based on a recommendation from the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission, reverting it from Highway Commercial to R-3, which is a multi-family residential classification.
City Attorney/Administrator Gregg Owens told the council the site at one time was zoned residential, but somehow got changed as part of a periodic update of zoning maps.
The council approved the re-zoning last (Tues.) evening following a public hearing that did draw concern from some neighbors over drainage. However city officials say the situation could be made worse if the property was to remain Highway Commercial.
