(Spirit Lake)– A senior housing project in Spirit Lake has the green light to proceed. The city council Tuesday evening approved the rezoning of some land along Sunner Avenue south to 175th Street and west toward Highway 71. Developer Randy Walters of the Epcon Group outlined some of the plans for the development to the city council…
“It’s going to be single family, over 55. We’re not going to have legal restrictions to over 55, but we’re going to market to over 55. These are ranch, single family homes, detached, there will be no common walls. There will be a club house, a swimming pool, bocce ball court, a dog park, a lot amenities that seniors like to do these days.”
Walters says the company has been involved in several different types of developments in Iowa and around the country…
“There’s currently four projects in Des Moines, Epcon projects, in different stages in construction in Des Moines now, and they’re in 40 states across the nation and I think there are over 10,000 units now, so. The floor plans have been pretty fine tuned nationwide to get a good, marketable, product.”
Walters says work on the project in Spirit Lake will be starting very soon.
