(Spirit Lake)– The city of Spirit Lake is going to continue providing water service to Orleans a bit longer than originally anticipated.
The city of Orleans has contracted with Spirit Lake for water service a number of years but voted recently to make a change. The action came after the Iowa Department of Natural Resources mandated changes to the agreement. The city of Spirit Lake then offered to continue the arrangement as long as Orleans was willing to meet the DNR requirements. The city of Orleans then opted to sign on with Iowa Lakes Regional Water. Some red tape in the permitting process has resulted in the request for the extension. As a result, Spirit Lake will continue to provide water to Orleans for an additional 18 months beyond the expiration of the original agreement.
