(Spencer)– There’s good news on the construction of a splash pad at the Spencer Aquatic Center. The city council Monday awarded the low bid of $921,639 from Woodruff Construction.
Wes Boyer of the Bolten and Menk engineering firm, which is overseeing the project for the city, says there should be no direct impacts on the aquatic center once construction is underway later this spring and summer…
“Yeah, we’re excited to get rolling on that and as it relates to the pool, the intent is for the Aquatic Center to remain open per usual and we’ll work around that with some fencing, tent fencing, bouncing around probably a little bit. We’ll have to kind of talk through the logistics of that as we get into that pre-construction meeting.”
Kevin Larson, Northwest Region Vice President for Woodruff Construction, told the council they look forward to the start of construction…
“I know we’re not going to open it this year, but we’ll get it all ready to go, get it sealed up for winter, and then get it opened up first thing this spring.”
The bid is well under the $1.2 million the city budgeted for the project. City Manager Kevin Robinson says that will allow them to re-direct some of the hotel-motel tax revenue earmarked for the splash pad to other projects.
