Spencer Schools Schedule Make Up Days

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)—One area school district is tweaking it’s calendar to accommodate for two days of classes that need to be made up that were missed this winter due to snow days. Spencer Schools Superintendent Terry Heman says the school board there voted earlier this week to make the changes…(click here for comment.)

“Friday May 3rd we’re supposed to have a full day of professional development for staff with no school for that day. We WILL be having a half day of school on May 3rd with a 12:30 dismissal and then staff will have professional development in the afternoon. And then the second makeup day will be on May 24th. We were originally scheduled to have our last day of school on May 23rd with a 12:30 dismissal. Now we’ll have a full day of school on May 23rd, and on Friday, May 24th we’ll have a half day of school with a 12:30 dismissal and our last day of school will be right into the Memorial Day weekend.”

Heman says it was the feeling of the board that would be a better option than the alternative…(click here for comment.) “That’s correct. And if we didn’t make those changes we were going to be bringing kids back for probably a half day after the three-day Memorial Day weekend, and this just makes sense.”

Heman, and everyone else as far as that’s concern, are keeping their fingers crossed the snow is done.
