Spencer Schools Say One Of The District’s Buildings Was Heavily Impacted By Flooding

June 28, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– The Superintendent of the Spencer Community School District says they are comitted to starting school on time for students Friday, August 23rd, as scheduled, even though one of its buildings sustained heavy damage in the flood.

In an email to district patrons, Superintendent Terry Heman says Lincoln Elementary sustained significant damage and will not be ready to open for students and staff on that date. Heman says 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be relocated to other schools within the Spencer district.

Heman says Johnson Elementary was also impacted by the flooding and that a contractor is onsite. He says he’s confident that building will be able to open on time this fall. Heman says the remainder of the Spencer School District’s buildings were unaffected.
