Spencer Police Investigate Truckload Sale Thefts; Make Identity Theft Arrests

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Spencer police say an investigation into items being taken from a truckload sale has resulted in charges against several people.

55-year-old Theodore Jafvert and 49-year-old Bonnie Steece…both of Spencer…were charged with theft in the second degree after officers observed items being removed from the store and placed in personal vehicles and transported to a private residence. That’s where police recovered multiple items allegedly taken from the store. They have a combined value of 10-thousand dollars.

While officers were recovering the items, they also found what’s alleged to be methamphetamine and some drug paraphernalia. Steece and Jafvert were also charged with possession of a controlled substance…methamphetamine; and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were booked into the Clay county jail.

Charged in the same investigation was 19-year-old Changel Steece. She was charged with theft in the fourth degree.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.

In a separate investigation, 24-year-old Tony Steece of Spencer was charged with possession of stolen property. Police say he was in possession of a laptop computer that had been allegedly taken in a residential burglary in Spencer last November.

In another investigation, police say Tony Steece was charged with identity theft for allegedly using information from the Eagles Club to obtain payments he otherwise would not have had access to.

A 25-year-old woman from Spencer has also been charged with identity theft. Police say Nadia Virgen was allegedly in possession of a social security number not assigned to her and was allegedly using it to obtain employment.
