Spencer Mayor Steve Bomgaars Presides Over Final City Council Meeting

December 17, 2025

(Spencer)– Spencer Mayor Steve Bomgaars presided over his final city council meeting Monday evening. At the conclusion of the session, Bomgaars expressed his gratitude for having served in the capacity…

“It’s really been an honor and a privilege to serve as Mayor of Spencer. It’s been a very eventful four years. I think we would all agree to that, but there’s been a lot more positives than there have been negatives in my opinion. As an old coach, there’s an old coaching axiom. I think it’s kind of corny but I think it’s true, that there’s no I in team. Anybody who’s played any kind of team sports over the years has probably heard a coach say that one time or another. I think the city is like a team. You have to all pull together, and so there are a lot of thanks to go around.”

Bomgaars expressed his appreciation to community partners, city staff, department heads, the city council and the residents of Spencer.

Bomgaars did not seek re-election in November’s election. Donavon Wunschel, a current council member, was elected as Spencer’s next Mayor.

The council will address how they intend to fill the vacant city council seat after the first of the year.
