Spencer Man Sentenced On Federal Drug Charge

August 29, 2025

(Sioux City)– A Spencer man has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison on a federal drug charge.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa says 33-year-old Dylan Halbur was sentenced on Wednesday after pleading guilty in March of this year to one count of possession with intent to distribute a mixture of a substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine.

Prosecutors say evidence presented at court hearings showed that on August 26th, 2024, law enforcement executed a search warrant on a camper in Spencer where Halbur was known to reside and store items. Police found about 45 grams of methamphetamine, $2,900 in cash, marijuana, a digital scale and other evidence of drug use and distribution. Prosecutors say Halbur admitted the methamphetamine was his and that he intended to distribute it.

Halbur is being held in the custody of a U.S. Marshal pending transport to a federal prison.

The case was investigated by the Spencer Police Department, Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa DCI Laboratory.
