Spencer Man Sentenced On Federal Drug Charge

November 22, 2014 Steve Schwaller

(Sioux City)—A Spencer man has been sentenced on a federal drug charge.

29-year-old Ricardo Ballesteros was sentenced last Thursday to ten years in federal prison.

Ballesteros pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court back in September of last year to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

At a plea hearing, Ballesteros admitted being involved in a conspiracy that distributed more than 10 pounds of mixed methamphetamine from 2010 through August, 2011. According to court documents, Ballesteros aided and abetted the distribution of more than 13 grams of pure meth to an individual cooperating with law enforcement on two different times in June, 2011.

In addition to the prison term, Ballesteros must also serve a five-year term of supervised released.

He’s being held in the custody of a federal marshal pending transport to a federal prison.

The case was investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Spencer police and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
