(Spencer)– A drive by a local hospital to gather donations of school supplies for children in Afghanistan has wrapped up.
Spencer Hospital conducted the drive on behalf of Gary Knoer, one of it’s employees. Knoer is currently deployed in Afghanistan where he helps patrol schools.
He made officials at Spencer Hospital aware of the desperate need for school supplies in an e-mail. That’s where hospital officials came up with the idea to collect the supplies.
Susan Zulk, Marketing Director at Spencer Hospital, says the response was overwhelming. She says they “were hauling up boxes and bags full of pens, pencils, calculators, markers–and every school supply imaginable on a daily basis. The community involvement and excitement for helping the Afghanistan children has been heart-warming and gratifying.”
Zulk says donations came not only from the local area, but from other parts of the country as well. She says they received a box of pens from a business in Colorado.
Zulk says Knoer was overwhelmed when she e-mailed him a photo of all that had been donated.
Zulk thanks everyone for the terrific response.
