(Spencer)– No injuries were reported this (Tues.) morning in a fire in a parking lot in Spencer. The Spencer Fire Department was called a little after 6:00 am to 914 13th Street Southwest where a tar kettle was on fire. According to a press release, firefighters deployed attack lines to extinguish the fire and cool the container. They also placed oil booms around the scene to prevent the product from getting into a nearby storm sewer.
The city of Spencer Public Works Department assisted with supplying absorbent products to help soak up the oil.
Firefighters were on the scene nearly two hours.
