(Spencer)– The Spencer City Council Tuesday evening heard from the new President of the Board of the Spencer Area Activity Center. Dr. Dan Jorgenson told the council the interest in preserving the center is growing, based on the turnout of a recent fundraising event the group held. Jorgenson said they’re requesting some funding from the city of Spencer an Clay County to assist in their efforts…
“We’ve got day to day expenses of course, you know, and we’ve always received support from the city and the Board of Supervisors and that just about takes care of what our needs are to keep the doors open. But to get a new director, it’s going to cost some money. So that’s what some of this fundraising is for. We’ll continue to do that so that, you know, you always hope that one time it would be self sustained, you can just take care of it. We want to have the entire community interested in coming there. We’re trying to dress the place up a little bit and make it a place, a venue, where maybe you could have a graduation party or even a wedding reception, and if we can rent the place out for that, that’s going to help fill the coffers.”
The council took no action on the request at last (Tues.) night’s meeting.
