SPENCER, Iowa (AP) – Layoffs are in store at the Eaton
Hydraulics plant in Spencer.
Company officials have announced that 103 workers, or one-fourth
of the company’s workforce, will be laid off because of a drop in
demand.
The company, which is part of the Ohio-based Eaton Corp., makes
pumps and motors for the industrial, agricultural and construction
markets.
Company spokesman Scott Moore says officials are seeing a
softening in sales, spurred by a decline in construction sales,
which is affecting staffing at the plant.
Eaton Hydraulics is shutting down for two weeks over the
holidays. The company has extended the closing by three days – Dec.
22, 23 and Jan. 2 – as a cost-saving measure. The layoffs are
effective Jan. 5.
