Spencer City Council Discusses Possible Adjustments To Wastewater & Solid Waste Fees

May 17, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– Wastewater and solid waste fees may be on the way up in Spencer. The city council Monday evening approved the first reading of some proposed ordinances to that affect. Deputy City Manager Brian Weuve (weave) told the council the change in wastewater fees would include a revision in the rate structure, along with an availability charge based on the size of a customer’s water meter.

Weuve (weave) says residential and commercial solid waste fees would also see a slight increase, with adjustments also being made to dumpster charges…

“The whole goal into going through this was to make sure that the rates that we’re charging for both of those services are fair and equitable to our citizens and businesses that those that use the system are the ones that are paying for their usage and that we’re not pushing, you know, counting on some rates to subsidize for other users.”

Weuve says the proposed changes are based on an in-depth review of the city’s rate structures. The new rates, if they receive final approval, would go into effect this coming August 1st.
