(Spencer)– The Spencer City Council Monday evening awarded a bid on a project to extend a street into a new commercial development to be located on the city’s north side, north of Schoeneman Lumber.
The council took the action after approving a property exchange with a private landowner in that area, avoiding condemnation. The measure passed with councilman Brian Balk, who expressed concerns previously with the agreement, casting the lone no vote.
The low bid for the street came in at nearly $707,000, well below the engineer’s estimate. It was approved unanimously.
The project has a substantial completion date of this coming September 1st. Dollar General plans to build a store in the new development.
