(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors Tuesday voted to reduce speed limits in a couple of areas just east of Orleans.
County Engineer Dan Eckert told the board one of those is for County Road M56 east of 140th Street and 255th Avenue. He says it’s at the request of some nearby property owners concerned about safety…
“The idea being we want to reduce their speed as they come into the curve. The other thing is this is not a great intersection, although the visibility’s real good if you’re headed west on that intersection. I think it will be safer to have the speed reduced as you’re coming around the curve.”
The other affects a stretch of 140th Street from County Road M56 east to the city of Spirit Lake’s green waste site. Eckert says that’s at the request of city officials…
“They tell me that this time of year when leaves start coming down and branches that there’s as many as seven vehicles I’ve been told waiting here on the highway waiting for the green waste to open and they think it’s a dangerous situation. The other thing is you’ve got a curve you’re looking around here and of course we go to gravel right here, so.”
The speed limit in that area will be lowered from 55 mph currently to 45 mph.
