(Spirit Lake)– Efforts by a Dickinson county board of supervisor to petition to include a proposal to merge the positions of County Auditor and County Recorder on the November General Election ballot sent some sparks flying at today’s (Tues.) board of supervisors meeting. Supervisor Chairman David Gottsche called for a straw poll among his fellow supervisors. He questioned the propriety of Allen’s attempt at a petition to put the measure on the ballot…(click here for comment from Gottsche.)
Allen denied that, saying she took it upon herself to seek out the ballot initiative strictly as a taxpaying resident…not as a supervisor…(click here for comment from Allen.)
Among those opposing the combination of the offices was supervisor Paul Johnson…(click here for comment from Johnson.)
Supervisor Pam Jordan agreed with efforts to put the measure on the ballot, citing what she says have been efforts by some at the state level to block certain measures from getting to the voters…(click here for comment from Jordan.)
Supervisor Bill Leopold said he would need more details before taking a position on the matter…(click here for comment from Leopold.)
Gottsche said the issue should have been brought about by someone outside of the board of supervisors…(click here for comment from Gottsche.)
While members from the public weren’t allowed to comment on the issue today (Tues.) because it wasn’t on the agenda, Gottsche said there’s a possibility it WILL be included on a future agenda for that very purpose.
