(Rock Rapids)– A South Dakota man was arrested on multiple charges following a high speed pursuit Wednesday on Highway 9 in Lyon county.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says it started around 9:00 am when they received a report of a suspicious vehicle near Highway 9 and Cleveland Avenue. As deputies responded, the vehicle fled the location eastbound, leading them on a pursuit at speeds as high as 117 mph. The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Highway 9 between Jay and Jackson Avenues, about half way between Rock Rapids and Little Rock.
32-year-old Derek Vining of Brandon, South Dakota, was arrested and charged with theft in the 1st degree, eluding, operation without the owner’s consent, and was cited for numerous traffic violations. Authorities say Vining was also wanted on a Lyon county warrant for a probation violation. He was booked into the Lyon county jail on an $18,000 bond.
Authorities say the incident remains under investigation and that additional charges are pending.
