(Undated)– A couple of area school boards will have some new faces on them after next month’s election.
In the Spirit Lake School District, Board President Beth Will, and another longtime incumbent, Ann Goerss, didn’t file papers for re-election. Teresa Beck, who was appointed to fill a vacancy, has filed for one of the four-year terms. Keith Brockmeyer, Julie Currell-Smith, Peggy Gulick and Larry Wajda, Jr. are running for three open seats. Incumbent Randy Magg has opted not to seek another four year term, but instead is running to fill out the final two years of the seat to which Beck was appointed.
The Okoboji School Board will see some changes in personnel as well. Incumbents Phil Miklo and Board President Chris Stein didn’t file papers seeking re-election. Incumbent Markham Hale did file for re-election. Also running for three open seats are Joe Conover and Brad Droegmiller.
In the Harris-Lake Park district, Douglas Stahly is running for another four-year term for the District 1 seat. Tim Hoerichs has filed papers seeking the District 3 seat. Incumbent Gary Johnson didn’t file. And incumbent Shelley Heikens was the only person to file for the District 5 seat.
5:00 p.m. this past Thursday was the deadline for candidates to file papers.
There’s still a possibility of write-in candidates stepping forward.
For the Iowa Lakes Community College board of trustees, Janice Lund has filed for re-election to her District 2 seat and David Gottsche is seeking a full-term representing District 5.
School board elections will be held September 10th.
