Solid Waste Rates Likely Going Up In Spencer

April 24, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– Solid waste fees could soon be going up in Spencer. Deputy City Manager Brian Weuve told the city council last week it’s been nearly two years since the last increase was made for residential customers. He says the increase was based on a recent study…

“We did re-evaluate the rates, not necessarily the structure, but where the rates should go along with what’s in the plan for capital and they were recommending overall increases of six and-a-half percent for the rates, which you’ll see there. So the residential rate would go from $19.00 to $20.25 beginning July 1. Commercial, starting with that one day a week, one yard, is $36.50 currently, we would go to $38.75 a month for that, and then that whole chart is proportionate out, so it’s based all on the one rate.”

Weuve says the new rates will be reviewed further this coming February.

The city council last week approved a first reading of a proposed ordinance that would make the rate adjustments.
