(Spirit Lake)– Pre-registration is suggested for an upcoming snowmobile education course. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has the details…(click here for actuality.) The Dickinson County Snowhawks along with the Iowa DNR are once again offering their snowmobile education course this coming Friday in Spirit Lake. Snowhawks Past President, Dan Delperdang says the course is aimed at young riders. “The reason we do it is every person ages 12 to 17 has to take and pass this class in order to drive a snowmobile, so we offer it every year. Kids and adults take it too if they’re first time snowmobilers, but legally those 12 to 17 have to take it.”
He adds that numerous safety topics will be discussed during the course. “Basically the class goes over safety features, the laws, the DNR will be there to talk about the laws. It goes over operation of the snowmobiles, we’ll have a mechanic type person come in and talk about mechanical things on the snowmobile that they need to do before they ride and during the ride to make sure they’re safe and protected.”
He notes that pre-registration is suggested. “They don’t have to pre-register, but it’s kind of nice to do that. If they do they can register by calling me at 712-330-2609 or they can go to the Dickinson County Snowhawks.com or Iowadnr.gov and register.”
The snowmobile education course will be held this coming Friday (Dec. 28th) from 8 to 4 at the Dickinson County Expo Center in Spirit Lake.
