(Spencer)– Spencer Municipal Utilities is putting out a special challenge to its customers who heat with electricity.
It’s known as the “Neg-A-Watt Challenge”, and SMU officials say its designed to show how changing energy usage habits by a household’s occupants can result in significant energy savings.
SMU customers who use electricity for heat can nominate themselves to be participants in the “Neg-A-Watt Challenge” through June 10th. Entries are restricted to single-family, owner-occupied homes. SMU staff will select five contestants, with energy usage from August 2011 through January 2012 to be compared with usage from the same six months in 2010 and 2011. The household that reduces its electric usage by the greatest percentage during the period will be the winner.
The “Neg-A-Watt Challenge” is being made possible by a grant from the American Public Power Association and its DEED, or Demonstration of Energy Efficient Developments program.
Applications, including any accompanying material, must be received by SMU on or before Friday, June 10th at 5:00 p.m. in order to be considered for selection. SMU will announce the five participating households on June 21st.
