(Spirit Lake)—A brief but intense weather disturbance that set itself up along the Iowa/Minnesota border this morning dumped anywhere from 3 to 5 inches of snow in a narrow band about 10 to 15 miles wide. The Iowa Great Lakes wound up with a little more than four inches.
The snowfall wreaked havoc for unsuspecting motorists, many who found themselves skidding into ditches. The Dickinson County Communications Center reported receiving numerous such reports, but authorities say fortunately no serious injuries were reported.
The National Weather Service says a stronger system will affect the region late Wednesday into Thursday with the potential for several inches more snow and strong wind.
