SLYA Triple Play Project Gets Financial Boost

June 30, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– A major upgrade of the little league fields in Spirit Lake is getting a financial boost. Scott Trautman, an agent for State Farm Insurance in Spirit Lake, has contributed $10,000 toward the Spirit Lake Youth Athletics Association’s “Triple Play Project”. Trautman tells KUOO news the donation is through a grant program from State Farm honoring the company’s 100th anniversary…

“In the 100th year of State Farm they decided they were going to do 100 $10,000 grants to agents throughout the company. You had to be nominated and based off of your community involvement they chose two agents per state to be the recipients of the $10,000 grant. We were just super excited and super fortunate to get one of the $10,000 grants. And so then they had parameters around which community projects. It had to be 501C3 and things like that. We just though the Triple Play Project by the Spirit Lake Youth Athletic Association was just a perfect fit for something that I think will really benefit kids in the area for a lot of years.”

Trautman, who’s a volunteer coach and a 10-year sponsor of Spirit Lake Youth Athletics, says he has fond memories of playing little league ball as a kid, and he’s happy to give back to the community…

“I remember growing up and actually one of the teams that I played for was Neal Smith’s State Farm out in Gering, Nebraska some 40 years, coming up on 40 years ago. And so we just try to do the same thing. You know the community supports my agency and has supported our agency for the last 14 years so we really have a focus on supporting the communities that have supported our business. So this is just another way we can do that. Again, to your point, I think the way we impact our community the best going forward is in the things that our kids are trying to do and this is just one of a hundred examples of ways we can impact children, so.”

A check presentation to the Spirit Lake Youth Athletic Association was made as part of the final Spirit Lake High School regular season softball and baseball games Wednesday evening.
