SLFD Awarded Alliant Energy Hometown Challenge Grant

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A local fire department is getting some new equipment thanks to a grant from Alliant Energy.

It was announced today (Tues.) the Spirit Lake Fire Department has been awarded three thousand dollars through the utility company’s Hometown Challenge grant program.

Spirit Lake Fire Chief David Kollasch says the department will use the money to purchase equipment that detects any leakage on the face piece of a firefighter’s respirator.

The department raised matching funds for the equipment at a pancake feed last spring and their annual Firemen’s Dance.

The Alliant Energy Foundation awards Hometown Challenge grants to organizations that serve a greater part of the community such as public schools, libraries, police and fire departments. The grants must be for specific one-time safety-related projects that benefit a wide range of people and elicit a broad level of community support.
