The Spirit Lake Police Department says it happened shortly after 6:00 p.m. when an officer tried to pull over a 1991 Ford pickup in the area of Stakeout Road and Chalstrom Beach Road. The driver, 23-year-old Jeffrey Krowiorz II of Vaile, Iowa sped away from the officer, and a pursuit ensued. Krowiorz eventually drove the pickup off the road and into a field in the area of 240th Avenue and 175th Street. The vehicle went north and west through a corn field, exiting the field in the area of 41st Street and Sunner Avenue. Krowiorz continued northbound on Sunner Avenue until he lost control and went into the ditch at the intersection of 23rd Street and Sunner Avenue.

Krowiorz was taken into custody after leading officers on a short foot pursuit.

Some grass under the pickup started on fire and the Spirit Lake Fire Department was called to the scene to put it out.

Upon investigating the crash site, officers determined Krowiorz had been in possession of about 10 grams of what’s alleged to be methamphetamine and about 100 grams of what’s alleged to be marijuana and drug paraphernalia, including a scale and baggies and a large amount of money.
