(Spirit Lake)– Patrons of the Spirit Lake Community School District may once again be asked to pass a Physical Plant and Equipment Levy.
The possibility of bringing another proposal to the voters surfaced at Monday’s school board meeting. Board members say revenue from the levy could be used to help pay to replace bleachers at the football field, renovate the track, and possibly for artificial turf for the football field, among other possible projects.
Board members took no action on any of the proposed improvements at the football field Monday, saying they want to explore the possibility of another levy vote at their meeting in July.
Meanwhile, the district has received notification from its insurance carrier recommending the bleachers and track be replaced as soon as possible. An inspection report points out a number of structural deficiencies in the bleachers, installed in the mid to late 1950’s.
In other business, the board approved a 10-cent across-the-board increase in hot lunch prices for the upcoming school year. Interim Superintendent Doug Latham said vendors have told the Director of the district’s hot lunch program that food prices will be increasing again due to new increases in gas and diesel prices.
