SL School Board Accepts Resignation Of Board Member

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Meeting in special session, the Spirit Lake school board voted unanimously Monday evening to accept the resignation of Scott Wicks from the board, which was effective already this past Friday, April 15th.

In a very brief letter to the board, Wicks stated he was regretfully resigning due to personal reasons.

Wicks, who served on the board since 2003, had two years left in his term. The board must now decide how to fill the vacancy. It has 30 days from the effective date of Wicks’ resignation in which to appoint someone. If they don’t do that, a special election would be called. School board President Beth Will says the board will likely take up how to fill the vacancy at its May meeting.

Wicks recently entered an Alford plea, or no contest, to a charge related to a prostitution case out of Polk county. He received a deferred judgement, meaning if he successfully completes terms of his probation, pays a civil penalty and performs community service, the matter will be erased from his record.
