SL School Bd Fills Vacancy; Awards Bid On Football Field/Track Project

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake school board has a new member.

The board Monday approved the appointment of Teresa Beck to fill a vacancy created last month with the resignation of Scott Wicks.

In other business, the board approved the sale of some lots near the former administrative building on 20th Street to Spirit Lake Crossing, LLC, for $100,000. The action followed a public hearing.

The board also paved the way for work to get underway on a project to install a new track and artificial turf on the footoball field. Following a public hearing, the board awarded a bid of $1,074,000 on the project to Midwest Field and Turf of Dennison. The bid came in below the engineer’s estimate of 1.08 million.

Construction is to begin immediately following the last track practice of the season next week, with completion hopefully in time for the start of the upcoming football season.

Part of the project will consist of some grading work on the site of the former water tower, which will be used for parking.
